Windbow BowDa RogueEaglebow Bow

Who is the Rogue? A wimpy female character most people say...except us rogues of course...and others have called her a politically correct character thrown in for good measures. If you have ever played the rogue you realize how hard it is to play her well. Sure she can plunk arrows into her enemies from a distance but most times...especially when starting off...this is only a delay till close quarter fighting happens...which it always does.

The Rogue is one of the Sisters of the Sightless Eye - a woman who has a sixth sense that identifies and disarms traps. She is a devastating fighter when using the bow who can stand her own against the other wimpy male characters. Her ability with the bow is merciless when wielded properly and kicking ass is what being a rogue is all about.

Sure she can't release spells as fast as the mage or sustain damage like the warrior but who needs to when...if you are a smart player...you can stand back and kill all the ghouls without them touching a hair on your body...and a bodacious body it is. Her precision with the bow is uncanny and no one can match her. Yes....she can't use the armour and sword & shield that a warrior uses but so what? I love watching a warrior friend taking a beating while I stand back and kill outta harms way, while gaining exp. points, much quicker than my warrior friend can...>)

When playing the rogue pump up your dex as much as you can without forfeiting too much cost to the other atts. This will enable you to use the bow with greater accuracy...more dex = greater to hit points. The next important factor is magic. Unlike the warrior the rogue uses magic alot...though not solely like the mage. A few good spells, like chain lightning - stone curse - mana shield (very important when starting out) - teleport - and fireball, can mean the difference between clearing a level and dying on that level. Strength is also important. Without a higher strength, you can't use some of the more devastating bows out there. Finally vitality. Without it you would not be able to withstand any attacks that come your way.

Since the bow is an important part of being a rogue a few things you should know.

When firing, use the shift key to stay in one position. You can highlight a demon, press shift, and then fire you arrows. This stops you from approaching it and keeps you bound to your spot. This is very helpful in stopping your rogue from rushing into a swarm of evil while killing the lone scout that you happened to be firing on...which usually happens after you see one or two creatures ( the bastards like to travel in packs ).

When picking out a bow...make sure that its damage and to hit percentage are better than what you already have. The better the bow the better the stats...though not always.

I use a Merciless Bow of Thunder that has damage of 90-110 and to hit of 298%. Now my Eaglehorn (the bow on the right of the title up top) has a damage of 88-103 and to hit of 309%. Which one should I use?

Both are very good bows and both have saved my ass. I tend to use the merciless cause I can always compensate for the decrease in to hit with my playing while getting better damage results than the Eaglehorn. That is my choice yet you might choose a different path...say the Windforce (the other bow up top) which has a kick back that pushes your enemy further away from you (which I find distracting) or an Awesome Bow of Burning...there are many choices out there. Your inventory can hold a bit...though not enough for a packrat like me...so you can hold a few bows and use each according to its strengths depending on which level you might be on (changing a weapon is sometimes the smartest thing you can do while below town).

When it comes to armour, weapons, and shields...the best is not always the best. As a Rogue you tend to be excluded from the real heavy armour and weapons cause of strength limits...though not when you have some good rings and amulets to increase your strength. A rogue using a Giant axe is NEVER as effective as the warrior cause...even though you can carry it...you can't use it as quickly as the warrior can.Sticking to a sword and shield is better and there are some out there that really do help you out when you fell the need to just hack & slash for a while. The Stormshield (in the middle) is a nice shield that helps greatly and a King's Sword of the Vampire or Haste is very nice to have ( though both are very hard to find). These can help a rogue tremendously when not playing with a bow but stick to the bow until you are at a good level of experience.

I'm at 40 right now and I still die when going down to Hell in Hell mode. You never stop dying altogether.

Stop off at Wirt as often as you can to check out those things you will never find...like a Godly plate of whatever. He sells stuff that is invaluable to a rogue and even though he tends to be a bit of a prick...when it comes to how often you find anything good...he is handy at times.
