When down in hell or one of the other lower levels you'll happen across one or more of diablo's denizens...his little helpers I like to say...that in one way or another want your soul (and maybe your heart while it's still bleeding outside your chest). The monsters that are to be found tend to come in hordes...where you see one many more are sure to follow. You will never get all of the monsters in one level but tend to get a couple different types every level so the variety of ways you can die become endless.
The three classes of monsters are the Undead, Demons, and Animals. All monsters fall under one of these three classes and each class can say a lot when determining a planned attack. The Undead tend to be the easiest to kill in general where the holy bolt spell is very useful against them. They like to come in smaller groups, thankfully, and aren't as fast as the Animals when attacking in groups - sometimes coming one at a time which is often nice when surrounded by 10 or 20. The Animals are a bit harder because though they are weaker and easier to kill they make up for it by attacking in swarms. The Demons are by far the hardest to kill and for a rogue certain death when you confront them hand-to-hand since these creatures are by far the smartest, quickest, and most aggressive of all the classes.
Below you will find a listing of all of Diablo's Helpers along with the Lords of the classes with info on what their weaknesses are and any pointers on how to defeat them.

Skeletons are fast moving and like to come one at a time but in groups so never let yourself get pinned or surrounded if at all possible. A good Chain Lightning almost always takes care of them and the Holy Bolt is also a consideration considering it is only useful for undead creatures | ![]() |

Scavengers are one of the most common and nastiest creatures in the dungeons who are extremely fast and like to attack in packs so caution is always best..standing in a doorway or arch is best so only one or two of them can come at you at a time. | ![]() |

These nasty little suckers like to attack in swarms...which can be a bad thing...so staying in doorways till they are cleared off is a good thing. bats will attack in four ways (hence four diff types of bats)...they will attack and then move away, teleport next to you and attack then teleport away, charge and stay till they finish you off, or attack with lightning. Just keep your back to a wall or open doorway and you'll be fine. | ![]() |

Acid beasts are the most vicious of the animals. They spit acid at you from long range (which does major damage upon impact or if you stand in it) and when they are close up they attack you with their claws. The spitting does have its range so try to stay out of it while firing a lightning spell in their direction...or fireball. If you can't stay out of range a nice firewall while you hide around the corner takes care of them too...just don't let a few of them surround you cause you're dead in a few seconds...that acid is mean. | ![]() |

These bests aren't demons despite their name...but very powerful animals that can do an extremely high amount of damage in one shot. They tend to get low and charge at you from a long distance and if they make contact can take half your hit points in one shot....but they are easy to see when charging and are usually easy to side-step...once in close quarters they try to skewer you with their horn...don't worry...keep hacking at them and you'll do fine..just stay away from their charging. | ![]() |

the Hidden are demons that are of the earth being able to vanish and appear before or after they attack...they like to attack in packs but for a rogue this is no problem...they only materialize when you make a pause in movement or when you are able to locate one..more are sure to be around..just shoot in the direction of the first one and the others will appear only to be slaughtered by your arrows...muhahaha | ![]() |

Overlords are very strong and give a lot of damage in a short amount of time....these tough demons can be picked off by a good bow but stick with the door trick...once they surround you, you're quickly dead if you don't have a great spell handy. | ![]() |

These demons are wicked in that they have a ranged attack by throwing lava balls at you from far away and by trying to rip you apart in close range...lightning is the only defense next to the bow so use it if you have it...and never let yourself get surrounded cause a few lava balls and you're on the floor in a few seconds. | ![]() |

Gargoyles hide as statues till you get close then the flock will materialize and attack in a swarm...tough to hit with spells the only way to kill them is by picking them off one at a time so never awaken all of them by rushing into an area where they are frozen...fire a spell at one of them to arouse a few and let them come to you while putting arrows into them...that way you won't take on the whole flock but a few at a time. | ![]() |

Balrogs are one of the toughest demons with an awesome blast of fire from their mouths to start off with followed by much swiping with their short dagger....the best defense is lightning or stone curse cause if you are surrounded...even with fire resistance maxed out...they will make short business of killing you. | ![]() |

Vipers are truly evil...they hunt in massive packs and surround you lightning quick while attacking you with their pinchers....their damage is harsh when attacking so try to stay in a doorway or against a wall so they can't surround you....chain lightning is helpfull too in the early levels but useless when you are deep in hell so pump up that stone curse...the best thing when surrounded is to stone most of them around you and pick off the ones you can't stone thus stopping the rest of the swarm from attacking you cause the stoned ones are in the way...but try not to get surrounded at all costs. | ![]() |

These bitch witches, I like to call em, are awesome with a blood star attack that reduces your hit points by one third everytime the star his you thus basically destroying your health immediately when you are hit by a couple of them at the same time...the best and only way to survive is to stone them or use the fireball...you need to be quick cause they like to hang in groups and once they have started their attack they never stop searching for you...thus running and hiding doesn't work most of the time. | ![]() |

Counselors are the final insult when down in hell...these evil mages disappear and reappear at will while firing off either a fireball, bone spirit, or a flash spell (when in close combat)...the only way to survive is too keep moving and dodge anything coming your way while stone cursing them...if there are a lot of them you'll have to move in and take them on one at a time...their hit points are very minimal considered to other demons in hell thus hand-to-hand combat is sometimes the only way to go. | ![]() |
